BS with Charles Funk
Thursday Sep 06, 2018
Thursday Sep 06, 2018
I’m excited about this week’s episode because I had a chance while on vacation to hang out with my buddy Charles Funk and we had a blast! Charles and I were in a band together called S-Tribe that ended almost 17 years ago and we haven’t seen each other in 15 years. It was great to catch up but it was even better to make a podcast out of it! Charles is one monster guitar player and he also a Cardiovascular Sonographer; yes, I had to spell check that. He is an awesome dude who lives life on his terms and I am proud to have shared many stages with him, recorded with him and most of all to call him a friend.
Social Media Issues – People have complained food and bikinis right out of the news feed.
Stories From The Stage – Charles blanks and I recall floor tom fireballs.
What Are You Listening To? Charles is into Dropkick Murphys, Luthi, old vinyl, good production values and tight rhythm sections.

BS with Tony Clark
Thursday Aug 30, 2018
Thursday Aug 30, 2018
Hey Friends! Today on the show I hang with the multi-talented, quick witted Tony Clark. Tony is currently the guitarist for the band Wax Factory but he is also a computer IT nerd, I mean person. We talk about Tony growing up with music, his dad being a bass player and the Catholic church/school. Tony’s first band was a wedding band but he wanted to be cool instead of making money… Weirdo. Tony has been playing guitar for more than 40 years and had a band with his brother on bass for 16 years. He's seen a lot and done a lot but most importantly, Tony is a great story teller.
Social Media Issues – Tony has a lot to say about social media because he also works in IT. And we have a deep discussion about facebook groups and stupidity.
Stories From The Stage – Drinking on stage, don’t quit your day job, Juke Box Hero & tape face revenge.
What Are You Listening To? Tony has been listening to Shawn Mendes, early Blackberry Smoke, Will Hoge as well as some guitar oriented roots rock.

BS with Ronnie Watchmaker
Thursday Aug 23, 2018
Thursday Aug 23, 2018
I’m back from Charleston!! This week on The Bar Star Podcast I sit down with my buddy, Ronnie Watchmaker. We talk about all kinds of stuff as Ronnie has been a fixture in the Louisville Music Scene for more than 30 years so he’s seen a lot and done even more. We talk about how we first met, how he got proficient at guitar and bass and what his early influences are. He’s got some great stories and this was a fun one to do as Ronnie was on of the first people I met when I moved to Louisville 11 years ago.
Social Media Issues – Ronnie loves it for promotion purposes and for keeping up with long distance people but can’t stand the time consumption.
Stories From The Stage – A stage full of awesome players, falling off a stage and stripper girls.
What Are You Listening To? Ronnie admits he likes the “same old music” he’s been listening to forever, but has been getting into a lot of local artists lately.

BS goes to NYC
Thursday Aug 09, 2018
Thursday Aug 09, 2018
This week on the show, I sit down with my Beautiful Wife, Staci and we talk about her FINALLY going to New York City! Not only that, she fell in love with it and admitted that it’s an amazing place!! We talk a little about some of the things she liked about it, but don’t worry… This is not an episode about our vacation. It’s really about her being a “Country Mouse” Converted and NYC being my favorite place on the planet.
Then I get a couple thoughts off my chest and talk about a couple of records you guys should check out. There are no Social Media Issues or Stories From The Stage because I wanted to give you something to think about for a couple weeks.

BS with Brian White
Thursday Aug 02, 2018
Thursday Aug 02, 2018
This week on the show I hang with my buddy Brian White who is a great guitarist! Brian and I haven’t known each other too long but we’ve played a few shows together after meeting each other on stage about a year ago. Brian has had an interesting life growing up with a brother that played music in a signed band and a semi-famous father. Brian started playing violin at age 7 and then picked up his brother’s guitar and was hooked. We talk about his time in California and why he moved there in the first place. When he moved to Louisville in 2006 he was involved with a local television show that lasted about 100 episodes. I learned a lot about Brian and we had a blast hanging out!
Social Media Issues – Brian feels social media takes too much time away from regular life.
Stories From The Stage – Brian and I both have stories involving breasts being in the wrong place on stage.
What Are You Listening To? Brian has been listening to Pat Metheny, Jaco Pastorius and Hiram Bullock. We also squirrel off and talk a little about books from rock musicians.

BS with Angela Lese
Thursday Jul 26, 2018
Thursday Jul 26, 2018
I’m back after a week off!! Today on the show, I sit down with the Tama Chick, Angela Lese! She’s a killer rock drummer who is touring regionally with two different bands. Taco Mouth and The Raelyn Nelson Band. Raelyn is the one and only Willie Nelson’s granddaughter. Angela came to me about 10 years ago for lessons and she took the knowledge, worked hard and it has paid off! We chat about her recent marriage, working with the famed producer, Michael Wagener, touring and living in Nashville. She’s come a long way in a short time and I am super proud to have had a small hand in her success.
Social Media Issues – No SMI this week because Angela just tells me I suck at it.
Stories From The Stage – Angela has two great stories. One about a cruise ship and one about small town ignorance.
What Are You Listening To? Angela talks about Janelle Monae, Loretta Lynn and going to older music.
You can find Angela at the following places…
angelalese.com & tamachick.com
facebook.com/raelynnelsonband and @raelynnelson on Twitter & Instagram

BS with PJ Maxwell
Thursday Jul 12, 2018
Thursday Jul 12, 2018
Two weeks in a row I hang out with a former singer… Weird. This week I am hanging with someone I have not seen in person in roughly 17 years!! PJ Maxwell and I talk about our old lives and the band we were in called Warmouth, which was a heavy band based out of the Charlotte/Gastonia NC area in the late 90s, early 2000s. There were some shenanigans that went down including a meeting between PJ and Fred Durst. We try to be nice to each other but we just can’t help ourselves… The mean streak insults are flying. This was a great episode for me because I rarely take time to reminisce but to do it with PJ was an honor and a blast!!
Social Media Issues – PJ is not a fan of social media…
Stories From The Stage – A telephone pole, a perfect circle and a Preacher.
What Are You Listening To? PJ talks about going to see some live shows as well as the new In This Moment song with Rob Halford from Judas Priest on guest vocals.

BS with Chuck Willis
Thursday Jul 05, 2018
Thursday Jul 05, 2018
This week on The Bar Star Podcast I hang out with the one and only Chuck Willis, former singer of Heaven Hill. You’ve heard from Chris Evans, now you get to hear from Chuck and we have some laughs as well as some serious side bar stories. We have the ability to carry on a few conversations at the same time (we even talk about stuff that needed Staci’s approval) so this episode is all over the place. Chuck gives his account of what we went through as a band and how my leaving affected everything. We of course talked about drummers, music and bad memory problems. Chuck even wanted me to play an entire Heaven Hill song, so I did… But which one??
Social Media Issues – So many squirrely moments, I forgot what he said. He talked about videos and dating using social media, then we talk about face to face communication.
Stories From The Stage – Chuck looked at the drum riser to jam with me, but I wasn’t there and I recap my first ever show with Heaven Hill.
What Are You Listening To? Chuck goes between a few bands, like Maroon 5, Machine Gun Kelly, Huey Lewis & The News, which quickly gets taken off his list, and a few more…

BS at MOMs Music Drummer's Breakfast
Thursday Jun 28, 2018
Thursday Jun 28, 2018
I have something a little different this week on The Bar Star Podcast. A few days ago, MOMs Music in Louisville had a Drummer’s Breakfast so I went with my new gear and talked to a few guys. It was a lot of fun and it was very cool to see that many drummers in one room, albeit an ego fest. I enjoyed myself and I enjoyed talking to these 5 drummers and I can’t wait to be at the next one!
David Hoback, Jeff Jarboe, Eddie Abraham, Max Maxwell and Rex Owen were kind enough to sit down with me to have short chats and the conversations were all over the place. But the one thing they all have in common is that drummers are passionate people.

BS with Greg Upchurch
Thursday Jun 21, 2018
Thursday Jun 21, 2018
This week on The Bar Star Podcast, I am excited to hang with none other than drummer Greg Upchurch from the band 3 Doors Down! Greg was in Louisville this past weekend to play drums with Borkar for a benifit show and he was kind enough to sit down with me for a few minutes and shoot the breeze. We didn’t really talk about anything specific, yet we talked about a lot of stuff including his time with other bands, me not knowing where he’s from, the documentary Hired Gun and more! Greg is a great drummer, a cool hang and just a good dude so I know you’ll enjoy this episode as much as I did!
